Personal, Organizational, and Community Leadership Training (Summer 2007, Fall 2007, Summer 2008, Summer 2009, Summer 2010, Fall 2017, Spring 2018) - Initial 15 weeks of training with a rotating group (5-10) high-school aged young, who form the core leadership team of S3! The trainings are grounded in critical pedagogy methods based on Ella Baker's life and work and are led by Dr. Parker, staff members, UNC students, and local community leaders and volunteers.
Highlander Seeds of Fire Training (New Market, TN, July 2009) - Two S3 youth leaders traveled to the historic Highlander Research and Education Center in New Market, TN and participated in the week-long seeds of fire camp. They conducted community workshops on their return. Many of the activities form the foundation of our Learn-Teach-Lead model.
Ella’s Daughters National Network (Chicago, IL, May 2009) - Three S3 youth leaders attended the 2nd annual gathering of Ella’s Daughters at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Currently, youth are working to establish the North Carolina chapter of Ella’s Daughters, focusing on raising awareness of the life, work, and legacy of Civil and Human Rights Activist Ella Baker.
Youth/Adult Partnership Training (Boston, MA, August 2008) - Two S3 youth leaders and four EBWC activists received 3-day intensive coaching with consultants for the Kellogg Foundation’s Leadership for Community Change Initiative.
